@NPSSEAC and Submerged Resources Center just wrapped up two weeks of archeological inventory at Buck Island Reef National Monument. This fieldwork was a component of the 2015 field season of the Slave Wrecks Project, an effort with the Smithsonian Institution and George Washington University to locate and identify archeological sites pertaining to the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, in this case on St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. One goal of this project is to build local capacity in the field of heritage and cultural resource management by providing exposure for the need of heritage resource protection for future generations. This year’s season resulted in the identification of several new sites at Buck Island related to the region’s vast maritime heritage. Thanks to everyone for their hard work! #NPSSEAC #SEAC50 #FindYourPark http://ow.ly/i/aZvya http://ow.ly/i/aZvyj http://ow.ly/i/aZvAb http://ow.ly/i/aZvBC http://ow.ly/i/aZvDZ http://ow.ly/i/aZx1w http://ow.ly/i/aZx20
